YOU report on the problems with people drinking duty free alcohol on flights and causing disruption to other passengers ("air passengers may face criminal charge for drinking own alcohol", The Herald, April 12) and this sometimes leads to flights being rerouted to remove drunken passengers.

There is a simple solution: only allow passengers access to duty free areas after they have flown – so when you arrive at your destination and are heading towards passport control you will visit the duty free area prior to showing your passport. Problem sorted.
