THE Time for Inclusive Education campaign think it refreshing to see "a group of students taking direct action while seeking to make their school a more inclusive environment for its LGBT learners, parents and carers" ("Pupils up in arms over chaplain who opposes same-sex marriage", The Herald, April 17). The action in question is the proposed removal from post of a school chaplain who is a minister of the national church, the Church of Scotland. Does this not suggest the goal of the campaign is not so much an inclusive education but a rather exclusive one where certain traditional opinions about human sexuality – and those holding them – are excluded from our schools?

Perhaps the diversity this campaign has in mind is not so diverse as one might be led to believe. If the removal of volunteers makes the school a more inclusive environment, would it not logically follow that staff members who share these views should be next out the door?
