I WAS very interested, and a little saddened, to read in of the new office development The Grid to be constructed on Glasgow's Cadogan Street on the site of the present Corunna House which will be demolished in September ("A design for life, work ... and play", Commercial Property, The Herald, April 19).

My interest stems from the fact that many years ago my late brother Ivor and I, through our companies Cadival Estates and Westival Estates were responsible for the development of various office blocks in Cadogan Street including Corunna House. When we first started, Cadogan Street was rather seedy and we were warned, wrongly as it turned out, that it would be difficult if not impossible to attract quality office tenants to such a location and it is encouraging to see that Cadogan Street is now considered to be a core city centre location.

Whilst I shall be a little saddened to see the demolition of “our" Corunna House, of course I accept that for Glasgow to continue to live up to its well-known motto “Let Glasgow Flourish" the city must regenerate itself from generation to generation, and the high-quality specification proposed for The Grid looks to do just that.
