PRESIDENT Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal produced "shock-horror" in all the usual suspects such as the EU, the UN and our Foreign Office ("You cannot do a damn thing, Iran tells Trump after nuclear axe", The Herald, May 10). But the Obama deal was pretty much useless, allowing Tehran increased access to trade while doing nothing to curb its missile tests or its sponsorship of regional bedlam.

Rather than grieving for a flawed deal, it’s worth considering that a disruptive approach to Iran may in fact work. In the case of North Korea, Mr Trump seems to have unblocked an impasse and there's now a better chance of sustained improvement than anything produced by Barack Obama's unrealistic optimism and eloquent hand-wringing.
