WHILE I allow myself a wee lift from the report that more of us in Scotland are optimistic about the future, or at least are happy with the status quo, than our cousins in England ("Let’s enjoy this surge of happiness while we can", The Herald, June 8), I don’t identify as either sunbeam or raindrop, more meteorologically variable.

Like the current good spell, it won’t last.

But I’ll continue to play the National Lottery.
