The Gaelic phrase became an integral part of the parliament's logo for the first time, but the Holyrood authorities were quick to point out that they had spent no extra money on the change.
It would be introduced gradually as stationery or documentation was changed so that there would be no additional cost. The basic £3500 for creating the amended logo was being met by Bord na Gaidhlig.
Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson said: "One of the core commitments of our Gaelic Language Plan is to introduce Gaelic into our corporate identity.
"Incorporating the words Parlamaid na h-Alba' into the existing Crown and Saltire logo underlines our continued commitment to the Gaelic language and to the spirit of the Gaelic Language Act."
