MSPS have been told to have a long hard look at themselves and their behaviour by the Parliament’s Presiding Officer.

Tricia Marwick said politicians’ behaviour during First Minister’s Questions was “unacceptable” and warned them they could be damaging the parliament’s reputation.

During a heated session MS Marwick had to intervene and call for order on several occasions as First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon and Labour leader, Kezia Dugdale clashed over SNP cuts to public services and Labour’s income tax rise plan.

Backbench SNP and Labour MSPs shouted out during the session and at times the leaders were inaudible.

When the session ended Ms Marwick addressed the chamber and said “Some of the behaviour today was unacceptable.

“Members should review the footage and consider whether they showed themselves and this parliament in the best light.”
