Letters reveal warmth and bitterly cold Cabinet conditions

THE tone was conspicuously cold and impersonal.

If anyone had any doubts about Chris Huhne's frosty feelings towards David Cameron, they would have been dispelled by the lack of warmth in his resignation letter.

The now ex-energy secretary pointedly does not refer to working with the Prime Minister but, rather, talks about serving in the Coalition. While the PM's tone is friendlier – he tells Mr Huhne he made a significant contribution to the Government of which he can be proud – Mr Cameron fails to raise hope of a return to government should he be cleared.
