Appeal on Scottish implications

LABOUR last night called on prosecutors to reveal the scale of the ongoing investigation into the Scottish banking sector.

Prosecutors announced this week that the probe would be extended following "recent developments".

Labour has written to the Lord Advocate calling for clarity on the extent of the investigation which is taking place north of the Border.

The party has also demanded to know when the inquiry was launched, how many staff are working on it and when any prosecutions might be announced. Labour's Jenny Marra said: "Everyone in Scotland wants to be reassured that all avenues are being taken to ensure that any criminal behaviour within banks based here in Scotland are fully investigated. "My questions will help shed light on what the Crown Office has done to date."We need to ensure that any hint of criminality in our banking system is examined by the relevant authorities and action taken where there is evidence of crimes having taken place."Last night in response to Labour, a Crown Office spokesman said: "We can confirm that the Lord Advocate has today received a letter from Jenny Marra and will respond in due course."
