BBC chief hits back on savings

THE head of the BBC in Scotland is telling MSPs to back off on their criticisms of savings made by the corporation.

BBC director Ken McQuarrie, stung by SNP members of the Education and Culture Committee during his last grilling at Holyrood, has hit back with a strongly worded response to MSPs outlining a series of figures of his own ahead of the committee meeting today.

In his letter, he says claims that staff have been cut by 60% and that Radio Scotland receives a tenth of the budget of Radio 4 are untrue.
