By-election jitters on show amid heated debate in the Commons

Tory jitters over today's Eastleigh by-election reared their head at Prime Ministers' Questions yesterday.

Members were slightly more thin on the ground than normal for a Wednesday. Due to the election, the parties insisted, and certainly not because of the recent half-term holiday.

The first question (placed by the Conservative's whips office? Perish the thought) baffled many MPs.
