Scots support for green energy has been revealed as Nick Clegg insists he has won the battle for environmental policies within the Coalition Government.

The Deputy Prime Minister will today say that the UK will not be left behind in the fight against climate change.

He will say that "no-one in Government" wants to depart from the Coalition's green agenda, though there had been "internal debates".

It follows reports of arguments within the Tory-LibDem administration.

However, the LibDem leader will say: "This Coalition Government is unreservedly committed to helping our low carbon sector thrive – no ifs, no buts."

Mr Clegg will also announce £100 million of funding to encourage foreign and domestic investment in energy efficiency.

Last night the SNP also hailed a poll which showed higher support for wind power among Scots than among those from any other part of the UK.

A Yougov poll found 70% of Scottish respondents believe the renewable energy has the potential to reduce carbon emissions.

The Scottish Government has committed to producing 100% of Scotland's electricity needs from renewable sources by 2020.

Highlands SNP MSP Mike MacKenzie said: "The fact that the support for wind energy is markedly higher in Scotland is a clear confirmation the Scottish Government's ambitious targets enjoy widespread support across the country."
