The Conservative Party co-treasurer Peter Cruddas was last night under pressure to resign after claims he offered access to David Cameron for up to £250,000.

Cruddas reportedly told potential donors that gifts of more than £200,000 would get them into the party's "premier league".

It was alleged that this was enough to get donors invites to dinner with Cameron and George Osborne. Cruddas was reportedly filmed making the offer to undercover journalists.

A Conservative Party spokesman said: "No donation was ever accepted or even formally considered by the Conservative Party."
