Degree of protest

AROUND 150 students protested yesterday outside the Scottish Parliament about the SNP Government's decision to lift the cap on tuition fees for students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Emma Meehan, of Scottish Labour Students, claimed the Government was giving universities “free rein to cash in and price out poorer students”.

Ms Meehan, from Somerset, said: “Edinburgh University now has the highest fee for an undergraduate course in the UK, and students are campaigning to reverse this decision.
