Economist to address committee

A LEADING economist who believes the widening income gap in countries such as the UK acts as a brake on economic growth is to give evidence by video-link to MSPs this month.

Professor Joseph Stiglitz of Columbia University, New York, won the Nobel Prize for economics in 2001.

One of his studies concluded countries that are more unequal do not grow as well, as a concentration of income limits the potential of people to contribute productively.
