The Scottish Government refused to publish legal advice on whether an independent Scotland would be made to join the euro last night as it was accused of making "fanciful" claims about EU membership.
As the row deepened, Labour also accused the SNP of misrepresenting the views of the late Robin Cook.
It follows the release of a House of Commons briefing note which suggested that Scotland could be forced to join the euro and pay £8 billion to aid the faltering eurozone.
