IT was liquid humble pie.

Harriet Harman, the deputy Labour leader, who branded Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander a "ginger rodent" in 2010, has made up with her LibDem opponent.

Such was the high-profile nature of her put-down that Cairngorm Brewery decided to make the most of the political spat and produce a Ginger Rodent beer, which has now been introduced to the Stranger's Bar at the House of Commons.

In the spirit of cross-party reconciliation, Ms Harman accepted Mr Alexander's invitation to bury the hatchet and down a pint of the ginger stuff at the Westminster watering hole.

And the Shadow Culture Secretary mustered a political quip, saying: "I'm really glad there's some economic growth in Danny's constituency because he's stuffed the rest of the country."

Meanwhile, Mr Alexander, who represents Inverness, said he was delighted to promote the new beer and the local brewery, saying: "Now it has taken the House of Commons by storm, there is no end to their prospects for success."
