Holyrood debates Act of Settlement

THE Scottish Parliament has been told it is a matter of "disappointment and incredulity" that Catholics cannot ascend the UK throne.

SNP MSP Jim Eadie, in a Holyrood debate last night, said it was time to “sweep away” the discrimination.

He said the impetus for the debate on a motion he had tabled was the recent agreement at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, which will allow monarchs to marry a Catholic and remove gender discrimination on the line of succession.
