Labour attack as unpaid fines soar

THE number of offenders fined by the procurator-fiscal service who failed to make even a single payment jumped by a third last year, the Labour Party has claimed.

Community safety spokesman James Kelly said figures showed there were more than 5000 cases where nothing was paid and more than £1 million in fines was outstanding.

It is set against a backdrop of an increase of 29% in fiscal fines, fiscal compensation offers and the cash involved in fiscal combined offers.
