ED MILIBAND is light on policy and has not yet come up with a credible alternative plan for Britain's economy, according to one of Labour's biggest donors.

Businessman John Mills, who chairs consumer products company JML, has given the party its largest donation so far this year – shares worth £1.7 million.

However, he said Labour had failed to present a clear idea on how to get the economy growing at a reasonable speed and how to get the deficit down.

Mr Mills stressed the UK's "whole political spectrum is policy-light and this includes the Labour Party," adding: "I'm not sure anybody has a compelling message."

But he went on to point out that while George Osborne was pursuing the wrong policies, the Chancellor could not be described as "policy light".
