But there was much less to the poll than met the eye. Yes, support for independence was up four points to 32% and support for the Union down four to 53%. Against that, a 21-point gap remains a formidable hurdle, and this actually widened when compared with the last comparable poll. When YouGov asked the same question in October the Yes camp was on 34% and No on 52%. In April last year it was 35% and 52%.
