The Liberal Democrats have backed calls for a break up of the taxpayer-owned Royal Bank of Scotland.
Delegates supported a motion calling for parts of the bank to be split into local and community banks at the party conference on the day the bank's chief executive, Stephen Hester, said it had almost recovered, four years after it received a multibillion-pound bailout.
