LABOUR will today find out if it has won its first major by-election test under Ed Miliband's leadership.

The party is tipped to take the seat of Corby in Northamptonshire following the resignation of its high-profile MP, chick lit author Louise Mensch.

Voters went to the polls yesterday but ballots will not be counted until today.

Labour is expected to take the seat following a disastrous Tory campaign that has seen the party accused of aiding another candidate. The contest is being viewed as the first real by-election test of Mr Miliband's stewardship.

Corby has voted for the winning party in every general election since 1983.

It is nicknamed "little Scotland" as around one in five residents is Scottish.
