Mitchell tells PM he did not call police 'plebs'

Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell looked the Prime Minister in the eyes and said he did not use the word "plebs" during a row with a protection officer in Downing Street.

Mr Mitchell made the denial after being hauled to No 10 by David Cameron to discuss the allegations last Friday. A police log suggested the Tory MP abused officers as "f*****g plebs". Sources said Mr Mitchell "looked him in the eye" and assured him that he had not used the words reported in the log.
