The decision to scrap the £4 billion Nimrod fleet has put UK national security at risk, an influential group of MPs warned.
The Commons Defence Committee even questioned whether the UK was still able to deal with "escalations" beyond its shores.
It said ministers risked making the situation worse with plans to withdraw other methods of patrolling UK waters.
