PARTY GAMES: Former Olympic sprinter Sir Menzies Campbell gave his backing to Glasgow's bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games yesterday.

The Liberal Democrat leader - who competed in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and 1966 Commonwealth Games in Jamaica - pledged his support at the Glasgow School of Sport at Bellahouston Academy.

Sir Menzies also held the British 100 metres record between 1967 and 1974.

"Sport played an enormous part in my life, " he said at Bellahouston.

"I think there can be nothing better for Scotland as a whole than if Glasgow were to win the bid for 2014.

"It has my complete and unqualified support."
