Murphy touted as Labour leader in Scotland

JIM Murphy has been approached by colleagues at Westminster to be- come Labour leader in Scotland and in due course stand for Holyrood, The Herald can reveal.

The Shadow Defence Secretary and former Scottish Secretary is being touted as the most capable person to take on First Minister Alex Salmond and help revive Labour’s fortunes north of the Border.

“He’s clearly the best man for the job,” one backbencher declared, pointing out how the SNP leader moved between Westminster and Holyrood. “Alex Salmond did it, why not Jim Murphy?” he asked.
