Cameron Buchanan has been sworn in to the Scottish Parliament to replace the late David McLetchie MSP, who was described by Conservative leader Ruth Davidson as "the best of parliamentarians and the best of men."
As a regional list member for Lothian, Mr Buchanan, 66, became an MSP without the need for a by-election.
Former Scottish Tory leader Mr McLetchie died of cancer on August 12. Ms Davidson's condolence motion was the first business of the new session.
