But the Scottish Government insisted in spite of the absence of an email or document trail this was not unusual, due to the specific nature of Freedom of Information requests.
A spokesman for Mr Salmond said a statement by James Murdoch under oath at the Leveson Inqiry confirming the substance of the First Minister's conversations with him was about jobs was far more important than any Freedom of Information trawl.
