Panda move 'must not take human rights off agenda'

AMNESTY International has warned the arrival of two giant pandas from China at Edinburgh Zoo must not be a distraction from the country's human rights record.

The human rights group believes thousands of executions have been carried out by China, exceeding the combined figure for the rest of the world.

Amnesty International Scotland director Shabnum Mustapha said the Holyrood Government had shown a willingness to engage Chinese officials on their human rights record.
