Labour has avoided a showdown with the unions over its policy to freeze public sector pay.
Delegates voted on a motion to "note" rather than "condemn" the policy, as union leaders had wanted, thanks to a behind-the- scenes deal.
However, the change did little to temper union anger against the party leadership.
