He said jobs and economic growth were his Government's top priorities, but speaking to young people yesterday he said "youth employment most of all is critical".
Mr Salmond, accompanied by seven of his ministerial team at a meeting of the National Economic Forum in Edinburgh, said a range of measures to tackle the issue were in place and he claimed progress was being made but he admitted "we can and we must do better".
