Eric Joyce spent a night in police cells last month after a second drunken brawl in the House of Commons bar.

The independent Falkirk MP was arrested after wrestling with two police officers, a year after he was fined £3000 for assaulting Tory MP Stuart Andrew and Ben Maney in the Strangers' Bar at Westminster.

During his earlier court appearance, which led to his suspension from the Labour Party, he promised to address his drink problem.

After the latest incident, Mr Joyce, 52, was banned from buying or being served alcohol in the Palace of Westminster.Mr Joyce was said to have been involved in the incident in the Commons Sports and Social Club bar after being told he could not take a glass with him when he went to a smoking area outside.

The Crown Prosecution said there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against the former Army major. Last year, Meg Lauder, who was 17, claimed Mr Joyce sent suggestive text messages to her after he took her on to help him in his constituency. He is estranged from his wife.
