Swinney moves to quell pension strikes

FINANCE Secretary John Swinney is to make an emergency statement to parliament this week attacking the Westminster government's plan for public sector pension reform.

Swinney will also outline the SNP government’s own plans for public sector pensions in Scotland, amid fears that the issue will spark widespread strike action later this year.

Trade union leaders warned yesterday that every part of Scotland’s public sector could be affected by strikes as workers protest against changes to pay and pensions.
