Tributes paid to former SNP leader

ONE of the key figures in the development of the SNP, Jimmy Halliday, who led the party from 1956 to 1960, has died in his adopted home city of Dundee.

Leading the tributes, First Minister Alex Salmond said: "Jimmy Halliday became leader of the SNP while still in his 20s in 1956 and guided the party through four crucial years preparing for the expansion of the 1960s.
