Under-fire Lansley brushes aside calls to quit post

ANDREW Lansley, the be- leaguered Health Secretary for England, took his battered message of healthcare reform to Edinburgh yesterday, insisting the planned changes south of the Border would produce a "huge upward shift in quality in the NHS in England".

He brushed aside calls for him to quit, saying it was "not about me" but about reforming healthcare to improve it for the future.

However, the problem for Mr Lansley and indeed the Prime Minister is the opposition to their planned reforms is now being voiced not just from the medical profession outside Whitehall but from within the UK Cabinet itself.
