Mike Cantlay, chairman of the national tourism organisation, said an "ideal compromise" had been found after the decision to axe The Gathering clan event.
He confirmed elements of the event, planned for July 2014, would be incorporated into a National Trust celebration of the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn a month earlier. Confusion led US clan societies to warn their 60,000 members to stay away from events organised under the Government's Year of Homecoming 2014 tourism drive.
