Westminster will return on Tuesday June 13 following the General Election the previous Thursday, No 10 has announced.

The Queen's Speech setting out the new Government's agenda for the coming session will be delivered on June 19, after newly elected MPs have been sworn in.

The only business for MPs on their first day back after the poll will be the election of a new Speaker of the House of Commons with John Bercow expected to hold on to the post he has held since 2009.

Theresa May's spokesman told reporters: "Her Majesty will summon the new Parliament to meet on Tuesday June 13, when business will be election of the speaker of the House of Commons. The State Opening of Parliament will be on Monday June 19."

MPs leave the House of Commons - some of them for the last time - with the prorogation of the Commons today, ahead of the formal dissolution of Parliament next Wednesday.
