Two-thirds of voters in the south of Scotland intend to vote No to independence, a poll suggests.

A total of 33% in the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway areas intend to vote Yes, up four points since January but still way behind the 66% of voters who back Better Together, a ComRes poll for ITV Border found.

ITV Border/ComRes said the relatively small swing is within the margin of error.

Including the 17% of undecided voters, some 27% indicated they intend to vote Yes while 56% said they will vote No.

ComRes polled 1,000 adults aged 16 and over in ITV Border's broadcast regions by telephone between September 3 and 9.

Better Together campaign director Blair McDougall said: "It's encouraging that people who live in the south of Scotland back a No vote in such strong numbers. People living in the south of Scotland know how valuable our links to the rest of the UK are. Thousands of Scots travel to England for work, to receive medical treatment and to visit friends and family. They don't want to see any barriers put between us and the rest of the UK.

"It's great to have such support in the south of Scotland, but we need to win all across the country. We are out working hard every single day. This is a fight that will go down to the wire but it is one we will win."
