THE OWNER of one of Scotland's best-known record labels has stepped forward as the latest high-profile supporter of Scottish independence.

Stewart Henderson, of independent Glasgow-based Chemikal Underground, said the rare opportunity of a referendum will see Scotland become stronger if the nation votes Yes next year.

Henderson said: "It's a chance for us as a nation to reinvent ourselves, to re-image and reaffirm what type of country we want to be. By choosing yes I think we can do two things: we can capitalise on our strengths and we can address our weaknesses.

"I know that it's going to be difficult and challenging ... but I'm utterly convinced that we will emerge as a stronger country."

Yes Scotland advisory board member Pat Kane said: "It's no surprise to me that so many cultural types are turning to independence - they like intelligent, passionate leaps into worlds of possibility."
