ALEX Salmond is expected to name the date of the independence referendum on Thursday.
The date of the historic vote will be included in the Government's Referendum Bill, which will be published next week.
Government sources said it was due on Thursday.
Mr Salmond has faced growing pressure to ensure the date is announced to MSPs at Holyrood first, as required by parliamentary rules, rather than to the SNP conference in Inverness next Saturday.
