NIGEL Farage is planning to visit Glasgow days before the referendum to campaign for a No vote.

Reports yesterday said the exact date and location had yet to be decided but David Coburn, UKIP's MEP for Scotland, confirmed "hit squads" of party campaigners would knock doors and distribute leaflets immediately before September 18.

He said Ukip - which has been excluded from the official Better Together No campaign - was "the only Unionist party left".

The move has sparked concerns that Mr Farage's visit will detract from Better Together's efforts to win over wavering Labour supporters, a key group in the battle for referendum votes.

A Better Together spokesman stressed Ukip was "not part of our campaign."

A Yes Scotland spokesman said: "Ukip's support for the No campaign will help persuade many more people in Scotland to vote Yes."
