LEADING journalists from around the world will take part in a debate on the independence referendum at the Scottish Parliament next month.
The event, To See Ourselves As Others See Us, is being hosted by the Law Society of Scotland on August 16 and will include reporters from Japan, Spain and the United States.
It aims to provide an insight into how the debate is being viewed around the world as the referendum campaign reaches its climax.
Alistair Morris, president of the Law Society, said: "Our country is under an intense international spotlight. From my own discussions with other law societies and bar associations, I know there is huge interest in the outcome of the referendum in September.
"Some have argued that the conduct of our referendum debate should act as a model to the world. Others have questioned an aggressive and, at times, unpleasant tone to the debate. Whilst the arguments for and against independence rage on, we wanted to step back and reflect on how the debate is being seen by others around the world."
