LABOUR would be the biggest victim of a vote for Scottish independence leading to it being out of office at Westminster "probably forever", according to Simon Hughes, the Deputy Liberal Democrat leader.

Speaking to the House Magazine, the London MP also suggested his constituents felt they "get shafted all the time" because of the uneven nature of the constitutional settlement post-devolution.

As Coalition tensions build between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats, Mr Hughes was asked about his party's relationship with Labour.

He said Ed Miliband must know the next General Election would "absolutely not be a shoo-in for Labour under any circumstances" and "he must know that if, by any chance, the referendum in Scotland were to be lost for the Unionists, who would be the biggest victim but Labour".
