Poll: Scots want more details on Cameron's power offer

MORE than 80% of Scots want David Cameron to say before the independence referendum what extra powers Holyrood would get if there is a No vote.

A new YouGov poll for the SNP found 81% of those surveyed wanted the Prime Minister to set out the details in advance of the ballot, with 72% of those who voted Conservative in the 2010 General Election demanding the information.

In February, Cameron gave a high-profile speech in Edinburgh in which he said "further powers could be devolved" if Scotland rejected independence, but he has so far failed to identify them publicly.SNP campaign director Angus Robertson said voters thought that wasn't good enough."The anti-independence campaign is promising nothing to the people of Scotland, and David Cameron's vague suggestion of more powers if people vote No will only encourage more people to vote Yes to an independent Scotland."This extraordinary poll shows an overwhelming majority of Scots - want to know what the Prime Minister has in mind."What is becoming increasingly clear is that the only real uncertainty in the debate on Scotland's future is what a No vote would mean, because the anti-independence parties, led by the Tories, aren't telling us. When the No campaign launches, they will have to provide answers."l A NEW Ipsos Mori poll for the Future of Scotland campaign, an alliance of civil society organisations, has found most Scots felt shut out of a debate dominated by politicians.The survey found 71% didn't think politicians had encouraged them to enter the debate on Scotland's constitution. It also found that 69% felt they had no personal involvement, with women less likely to participate than men.Chairwoman Allison Elliot said people wanted genuine debate and "to go beyond Punch-and-Judy-style politics".
