THE Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament has agreed to support the Yes Scotland pro-independence campaign.

The organisation will seek to join the cross-party group and urge members to campaign for independence in the run-up to the 2014 referendum.

Arthur West, chairman of Scottish CND, said: "The independence referendum provides a great opportunity not just to remove Trident from Scotland, but to achieve nuclear disarmament in Britain."

The SNP and Yes Scotland welcome the move.

SNP MSP Bill Kidd said: "The truth is there to see –the only way to rid Scotland of these unwanted weapons of mass destruction is to vote Yes in 2014."
