BEXLEY Athletic Club finished in a creditable sixth position in their first meeting of the Kent Women's League at Norman Park.

A squad of 21 took part and a club record was broken along with 10 personal bests.

In the under-13s, Louise Jenner threw 14.29m in the javelin to set a new club record, while she also acheived a personal best in the 1km walk in 6mins 51.6sec.

Amy Turner did a personal best in the 70m hurdles in 17.3secs, while Sarah Foster threw her best-ever in the shot-putt with 6.27m.

Kerry Heaphy achieved two personal bests in the 1,000m in 3mins 45sec and the 75m sprint in 12.3secs., while for the under-15s, Kelly Anderson achieved two personal bests in the 100m in 13.8secs and in the 75m in 14secs.

The next meeting is at Erith Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7, when all the women will be competing to improve on their times and distances.

Bexley AC is always looking for more athletes for the club, especially in the girls under-17 section where, remarkably, the club does not have any athletes at all.

Ladies team manager Paul Hatfield said: “It is a shame we do not have anyone representing us in the under-17 group because we are losing points at each meeting.

“If anyone wants to come along to Erith Sports Centre on Tuesdays or Thursday, from 6.30pm, then they are more than welcome.”

Bexley AC is also organising the Myra

Garrett 10km and 3,000m fun run, which takes place on Sunday, May 27, in Danson Park, Danson Road, Bexleyheath.

The 10km event for proven runners will start at 11am and runners must be 16 or over on the day of the race. The fun run starts at 12.30pm and the 3,000m distance can be run by anyone.

All competitors in both races will receive a souvenir medal with spot prizes, while two lucky runners who must be over 23 to meet insurance requirements will win the use of a Saab convertible for a weekend, courtesy of car firm Saab Bexleyheath in the main race.

In the 10km race, the first three male and female finishers and the first male and female veteran, will receive trophies and prizes.

Bexley AC members will pay £5 to enter the 10km run and it will cost £6 for unaffiliated runners. It costs £2 for runners who would like to take part in the fun run.

Entry forms are available from libraries and sports centres, or by calling Kevin Angell on 01322 336180.
