WHETHER religion should be embedded in the constitution of an independent Scotland is to be debated by faith groups, writes Tom Gordon.

An interfaith conference in July will discuss how to recognise the role of religion in society.

It follows a meeting of religious leaders in Edinburgh last month, including Church of Scotland ministers, Roman Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and Sikhs.

SNP ministers will issue a draft constitution for an independent Scotland in June as part of the build-up to September's ballot.
