Scotland's national theatre is looking for the public to submit plays, skits, polemics, jokes and rants on the theme of the independence referendum for one of its key productions this year.

Submissions for The Great Yes, No, Don't Know, Five Minute Theatre Show are due by March 23, and will be curated by the leading Scottish playwright David Greig and David MacLennan, the lauded writer, actor and producer.

The final performances will be streamed live over the internet by the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS) over 24 hours on June 23, from 5pm, and will take in viewpoints from the Yes, No and undecided sections of the voting public.

The NTS said it hoped the line-up will include "live scenes, songs, skits, rants and dramas, and will allow anyone, anywhere to democratically and dramatically respond to the theme of independence during a momentous year for Scotland."

It is hoped that there will be more than 200 "micro theatre" shows in the event, all of which have to have live audiences.

The NTS said it will consider submissions from professionals, amateurs and first-time writers or performers. In addition to viewing the mini-productions via the online platform, there will be five "performance hubs" in Scotland, five in other parts of the UK and up to five more abroad.

Confirmed venues include Òran Mór, Glasgow; Electric Theatre Workshop, Dumfries; Aberdeen Performing Arts and Arts Centre and Theatre.

Yes supporter Mr Greig said: "The show will be an extraordinary celebration of democratic and creative spirit in Scotland."
