GLASGOW East MP Natalie McGarry has agreed to provide financial documentation to an SNP association following claims it could not account for more than £4,000 from a bank account.

The National reported Glasgow regional association of the SNP had admitted to members that end-of-year bank statements showed £4127.62 was unaccounted for.

Ms McGarry was its convener of the association from 2011 until last year and the main signatory of the GRA’s bank account.

The missing money was marked “other payments” but not accompanied by receipts.

Sources told The National the GRA was struggling to transfer bank accounts to the new office bearers as Ms McGarry was not co-operating with the association.

Her lawyer Aamer Anwar said there were a “number of significant inaccuracies” in the report, adding: “Ms McGarry has been in contact with the GRA and all the documentation will be provided to them this week.”

An SNP spokesman said: “There’s nothing at present to suggest that money cannot be accounted for.”

Ms McGarry resigned the party whip in November when Women For Independence, which she co-founded, went to police over money missing from its accounts.

She denies wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, lawyers for Alastair Cameron, director of Scotland in Union, served a writ on Ms McGarry at the weekend after she failed to respond to a request for an apology over comments she made on social media.

The SNP did not comment.
